DEBORAH BOWMAN
Psychodynamic Therapist
I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist, registered with the UKCP and BPC, who works with adults. I offer a thoughtful and attentive space for exploration, insight and understanding opening the way to new possibilities.
My approach is open and collaborative. Together we explore your experiences, emotions and thoughts. I hold in mind both what is happening now, including in the therapy, and what may have happened in the past, thinking about what appears known and what may lie outside conscious awareness. The pace is led by you and facilitates depth, trust and honesty.
I work with a range of people, including those with specific concerns, those who notice patterns in relationships and those who are unsure about their reasons for coming, but sense that something in their lives warrants attention. I have a particular interest in the experience of illness, caring, the intersection of mind and body and transitional phases of life, including young adulthood, parenthood, ageing and bereavement.
I am Emerita Professor at City St George’s, University of London. I write and teach about illness, care and clinical ethics in psychotherapy and healthcare. I facilitate and contribute to ethics committees and groups in a range of settings, including psychotherapy training.
